Last decade we have ability to use simple personal devices like apple-watch to monitor some of our body functions like heart rate, oxygen level, amount of sleep. Even simple step meters had positive health effects. The next decade will bring focus on analysis of personal health data and improved interface between human and machine. For places where music meets medicine you can think of vibrating metronomes being a first step toward not only machines telling us what to do, but for us to communicate better between humans in ways that was not possible before. Imagine a smart metronome that listen to a soloist playing rubato and send vibrations to other members of orchestra. While most orchestras do not need such a device, its role in medical rehabilitation and physical therapy could be enormous. The instructor of physical therapy could send signals to teach us which muscle should move and which should relax. We could watch, feel and exercise at the same time. We have a chance of enhancing our reality not just by virtual reality but by devices that would enable better communication between people. The trick in most of the training is the positive feedback loop. The same could be applied to our measurable health. If you are scared of the role of machine in our lives think of people who socially chat with AI chatbots. A musical or medical chat would be much more helpful than “Prompt: Pretend you are my boyfriend”
